The previous article was about our volunteering on the island. But I would like to show you that it’s not just a job. We met really fantastic people. There is no problem to negotiate if we want to have a day off. Normally it’s 2 days a week, but it’s not a problem to work for half a day and then go to the sea or another fun in the afternoon or evening. And which treasures of the island did we visite? Continue, please …
5.12. 2017 – Durian Perangin Waterfall
- The waterfall is named after the trees of the Durian, which are abundantly represented here
- Located on the northern slope of the highest mountain of Gunung Raya Island
- It has several parts at different height levels (14 in total)
- Every part is beautiful and most of them have created a natural swimming pool where pure and clear water is
- After the entrance, a short staircase leads into a wooded park full of greenery, rock formations, fauna and flora
- In the midst of the waterfalls and greenery, there is a suspended footbridge
Our first trip and the first long ride on the scooter on the opposite side was wonderful!
11.12.2017 – SkyCab and SkyBridge
SkyCab (Cable Car)
- It is located in the oldest part of Southeast Asia (450 million years old rock)
- The lower station is at the foot of Machincang Mountain
- The path from the middle station to the upper station is 1700 meters away and it is 650 meters above sea level
- The upper station is located 708 meters above sea level and there are 2 viewing platforms. We can see the main island of Langkawi, adjacent islands and part of southern Thailand
- One ride is around 15 minutes and we can enjoy viewing on the dense rainforest crowns
SkyBridge (Bridge)
- After a short walk through natural vegetation, it connects to SkyCab’s upper station
- A 125-meter-long curved bridge suspended by one pylon over a deep ravine between 2 Machincang Mountain Peaks
- It is one of the longest suspended bridges in the world
- Completed in 2005, but in 2012 it had to be closed due to extensive reconstruction until 2015 (now fully accessible)
- The maximum load capacity is 200 people
MUST HAVE! If you avoid this place when you are on this island as if you were not here. It is the biggest pride of the island and it really was worth it 🙂
17.12.2017 – Eagle square (Dataran Lang)
- There is a 12-meter eagle statue ready for departure
- The statue welcomes visitors to the island from ferry
- The name of Langkawi Island can be translated from the old Malay language as OREL (helang) and RED-BROWN (kawi)
- There is a beautiful view of Kuah Bay
- The site is also popular for tracking ferries
Statue of Liberty welcomes you in New York and the Statue of the Eagle is here (we can only say – another region, another morality).
Cenang and Cenang Beach
- The most popular place for tourists with lots of restaurants and shops
- There is 2km a popular white-sandy beach with the many bars and entertainment (including water sports)
If you belong to a group of people who love the area with crowded tourists and evening entertainment, this place is for you. Occasionally we also go here, but only because there is a lot of Duty-Free shops (with excellent imported chocolate) or if we have a taste for a local specialty. The day after arrival we arrived at this place with our hosts, who ordered for us a typical local breakfast in the most popular restaurant.
Tanjung Rhu Beach
- Compared to the previous beach, this is completely separate (located on the northeast edge of the island)
- It offers stunning views of emerald blue water and adjacent islandsOne side of the beach is bordered by casuarina trees
In a word PARADISE! That’s how I imagine relaxing on the beach. Only a few people share the same experience with you. Spread a towel, sip a fresh coconut, and you say that you don´t need anything more.
