As some of you know, we surprised our family on Christmas Eve. We can´t believe that it’s been a week when we came back home. Today we have New Year’s Eve, it’s a few minutes after six o’clock in the evening, and we think of our friends from Cambodia. Their New Year’s Eve celebrations are done.
One often has the desire to evaluate at the end of the year what the year was. And so we have decided the last article this year (2018) to devote a few interesting facts and statistics.
I remember that before we started our journey, we agreed with Martin that we would like to visit some states of Asia, Australia, and New Zealand and the American continent from north to south (Canada, USA, Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Chile and other). We found out during this trip that we are not the kind of travelers (all places in one year). Honestly – it is not possible good to know the environment, the culture, the cuisine, and the locals so deeply in the short time. So without planning, we became SLOW-TRAVELERS.
When you tell someone that you traveled in Asia (total 404 days), someone maybe will be surprised when you tell him that you visited only 6 countries (United Arab Emirates, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Brunei, Singapore). And you may hear the reaction: only 6 countries? Yes, it may seem like few countries, but how many countries do people visit during 13 months when living in the Czech Republic? Moreover, these countries are much larger than the Czech Republic and are also spread over several islands.
In total, we visited 5 islands
Langkawi and Penang – Malaysia
Koh Lipe – Thailand
Koh Rong Sanloem – Cambodia
Borneo – Brunei
Changing backpacks
A short visit to Bohemia helped us to change our original large backpacks to smaller, and we traveled for a few months only with a small backpack (max. 7 kg). So for those who think it’s impossible, so I only needed a few basic pieces of clothing, 1 pair of shoes and mascara with a mirror). Thanks to travel, we also learned that tangible property does not represent wealth for us. Even according to surveys, spending money on adventure makes us happier than spending on material things.
Minimalism and ecological thinking = the basis of the right traveler
Fear of flying
The most common question and reaction when traveling. Are not you afraid to fly? I’m very much and you fly so long… I can travel by plane a maximum of 2 hours to Greece or Turkey, not longer. But did you know that air transport is (in terms of security) in the second place? In front of it, there are only escalators and lifts. And given that somewhere in the world is landing an airplane every 3 seconds, a plane crash is scarce. Don´t stress! It is true that we go to the aircraft always with knowing that a plane crash can be anytime.
During our journey in Asia to the last flight before Christmas Eve, we had a total of 25 flights. On the other side, someone looks forward to the flight when he travels once per year (e.g. to Egypt) for summer vacation. For us, it is nothing special when we travel by airplane. Sometimes we said – the plane, again. NOOOOOOO! But given the great savings of time, it has been many times the best solution.
PS: And another interesting thing. If you ever fly by plane, you are only 5% of the total population that ever flew.
Our future?
Luckily, we didn’t ruin our relationship, we both to love the traveling, and we’re already planning another adventure! So, the only thing I can say is that: where will be our next stop?
